This interview is the continuation of our first Juggy D interview
in Heidelberg, which took place in Summer 2004.
Juggy, you are back to Germany after two
years. What kind of changes have you been through since then?
Well in the last two years a lot has happened.
I've been touring my album all around the world. You know it's been
a great great experience going to different parts of the world where
I haven’t really realeased the album. And people kind of have
downloaded it from the Internet because everybody looks to the U.K.
for the Punjabi Music scene. So it’s been nice going to places
like Australia, Canada, America you know Kenya. And it’s been
a really good experience to see other people dancing to my music,
listening to it and singing the words to my songs. You know so at
this time I’ve been writing my second album, which is due to
start recording really soon and that should be out at the end of this
year. I’ve just finished recording some stuff with Rishi for
Rishis brand new Album which will be out at the July 23rd in the UK.
You have been on tour in the USA and other countries, what
did you enjoy the most?
I think Australia was the best so far. I mean it’s
really nice everywhere I go. Wherever we go to promote our songs and
we go on tour. It’s always been a good experience to know we
always come back with something different coz the crowd is always
different. But Australia was really good because it’s lying
on the other side of the world and it’s so far from home. And
just still see that same kind of enthusiasm from the crowd it’s
phenomenal. You think 'Oh God' you know these people are on the other
side of the world they’re like 24 hours fly away from me. Yet
they sing to my songs they dancing with so much love and enthusiasm
and it’s so overwhelming. That’s good Australia definetely
good (laugh)...
The releases of Singles like 'Eyes on You'
never took place in Germany. Will there be any releases of any 2point9
artist in Germany at all?
Oh well I don’t know. But we really hope for it to
release some day, yeah.
Will 'Push it Up', your latest single be
released for the mainstream market in the UK?
Yes it will. Yeah it's coming out on the 17th of July and
there’s also another… there’s a full Punjabi version
of 'Push it Up' as well which is called 'Aja Kurieh' and I'm gonna
be performing that today and it’s the full Punjabi version yeah
(laugh)...
In our last interview you mentioned Jazzy
B as the artist you would love to work with. Are we going to see a
collaboration of you two? If yes, when will It be?
Yes
hopefully coz since the last time I’ve meet him a few times,
we got on really well. And I've asked him a couple of times that…you
now listen… "When Im starting my next album I’d love
to do a song with you"... so he was really happy about the idea.
We haven't made any kind of arrangements yet but the fact that he
has agreed to it is a sign, so it's like when I'm ready to approach
him and ask him to do a track with me I’m sure he won't say
'No'. So yes it could be possible but you know nothing concrete yet.
Finally the Rishi Rich album is set to be
released on the 10th July
23rd of July yeah….sorry my mistake 24th of July.
Rishi was going to release his album two
years ago but he kept his fans waiting so long. What was the reason?
Well the reason was me and Jay and Veronica. He was producing
all our albums you know and he spent so much time for producing our
stuff. That he had no time for his own stuff. So all his stuff got
pouring down. So now it was his chance to kind of do his album. And
we all supported him we all helped him. We did tracks for his Album
and so that’s why it has taken so long. But in the process he’s
been working on our stuff so he’s been busy kind of helping
us guys out and so now it’s his time. So it's coming now. I
mean it's definitely worthfull. It was definitely for me worth the
way. It's an unbelievable album it's so diverse you know theres something
on it for everybody. Theres Qawallis on it Punjabi stuff, there’s
RnB, Hip Hop, there’s a collaboration of different artists myself,
Jay Sean, Veronica, Jassi Sidhu, Silinder Pardesi, J2K, Babyblue,
JD from So Solid Crew. You know there’s like ten twelve different
artist on that amazing with Fakhat Ali Khan, Master Rakesh, there’s
so many different people so many different styles. And the production
style that’s so diverse. One song will be like really grimmey
RnB and then you have a really traditional Punjabi Song. So its amazing
for me, I love it. And I'm not just because his my …hes like
my Bro and he's my producer but if I was an outsider I’d hear
the album and say you know what you got to check it out so definitely
buy it (laugh)!!
Your debut album came on the market in August
2004. How are works for your second album going and is there a time
scale for a release?
At the moment Rishis album has been at the main focus. After Rishis
album Jay Seans album is gonna come out. Which is due probably later
on this year. On top of that we went to Puerto Rico to work with the
Loony Tunes you know Loony Tunes are the people that are behind Daddy
Yankee. And they did that big song 'Gasolina' yeah so we went to work
with them like ten days in the studio. We’re doing an album
with them. Which is called best of Both worlds. Loony Tunes and the
Rishi Rich Project present Bhangratone. So it's called 'Bhangratone'
and we’ve done some work out there with them. And that album
is coming out this year aswell. And then my album comes right at the
end of the year probably kind of end of December maybe even early
2007. But I’ve written all my album like all the tracks I've
used the couples of new writers aswell. Theres Sohniye Part 2 on it.
So yeah I’m more excited about the second album than the first
one.
But the first album was great as well.
Thank you but the second one hopefully will step up a little
bit (laugh).
Any Collaboration with western artists? And
will the album come in the mainstream?
Yes, the first one was released in the mainstream market
you know. So it was available through HMV and it was the first Punjabi
album that went into the Top 100 album charts. It went in about the
number 70 which no Punjabi album has ever done. They haven’t
even got into the top 100 so I was very overwhelmed to be able to
kind of set that kind of standard for myself. So hopefully the next
one we gonna do the same thing. We gonna have some mainstream artists
on there aswell featuring on the album so yeah hopefully fingers crossed
that it will do better than the first one.
How are your plans for the next five years
regarding your career as a bhangra artist?
Well just a kind of ….just to keep stepping up. Just
try'in kind of achieve my personal goals. Taking Punjabi music to
where it hasn’t been before. I've got it to places where other
punjabi artists haven’t been. Top of the Pops I’ve done
in the UK. I've been on the mainstream Radio. On mainstream albums.
Worked with a lot of mainstream artist like Craig David, Britney,
Mary J Blige and all of that people. I've achieved a lot as a Punjabi
artist and I just wanna continue what I’m doing. I don’t
know further down the line five years down the line hopefully I'll
still be doing what im doing you know.
Do you have a message for all bhangra fans
in Germany and our users?
Yeah firstly thanks for having me back again. I really enjoyed
the last time I was here. Hopefully I’ll keep coming back you
know every ... so often. Keep up all the support that you shown in
the whole Project, Myself, Rishi, Jay and Veronica and hopefully we
will keep on producing good music where you guys will listen to and
dance to.
We would also like to thank you for this interview.
And special Thanks go to Sherry Kizhukandayil and the event-promoters.
